Resting

Resting

Resting

This trophy is resting.  Resting from the ones that want to make him a trophy (the hunters).  He’s also resting from the ones he wants to be his trophy (his females)  I took this picture while traveling in Colorado yesterday.

This week I am resting.  Disconnected, no contact with the outside world.  Except to stop in the library here in Westcliffe. Colorado.  I wanted to connect with you.

I’m resting.  Did I say disconnected?  Yes, except from hearing from God.  Tuning out all the world’s happenings, seems to tune in God’s will and direction more clearly. Take time to rest with God. Spend a quiet time, your devotion time, your coffee time with just Him, or if possible, several days in the Colorado wilderness. He leads me to green pastures.  He restores my soul.  Psalms 23

I’m sure the worlds activities will be there when I get back.  Paying bills, everyday chores, AND I also heard about some football activities going on in Mississippi.  Word travels, even in the wilderness.  See YA!  Dan Ainsworth

What makes a sunrise beautiful?

Sunrise

You’re on a deer stand, in a duck blind.  Maybe you’re taking a long trip, leaving before daylight.  I bet you’ve started your exercising or hiking well before dawn.  No?, well maybe you’ve crawled out of bed searching for your favorite coffee mug.  AND…….. Here comes the sun!

What makes the sunrise beautiful?  We can see it!  The colors, the various hues and blendings of these colors.  The color red, now it’s pinkish, now it’s MAROON!  (proud MS State Bulldog fan  here)  As the sun climbs over the horizon, light begins to shine on us and our surroundings.

Before sunrise, there is fear in what’s out there.  Fear of the dark, fear of the unknown, even fear of what might be.  An “official” sighting of Sasquatch was reported not 5 miles from where I’m sitting right now on my deer stand.  I know, I know there’s no such thing as……….wait….what was that noise?

But as the sun rises to give us a new visit each morning, we begin to see the road better.  Or maybe now we can see the deer.  What was that noise?  Armadillo. (Whew)

We can now see where to put our feet without tripping.  Because of the light, we now lose those fears.

Luke 1:77-79New American Standard Bible (NASB)

With which the Sunrise from on high will visit us,
79 To shine upon those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death,
To guide our feet into the way of peace.”

On this spiritual trip sometimes in darkness, we are afraid to move.  But when the “Sunrise from on High” shines down for us, we now see where to go. We now see there were no “monsters” in the dark.  We now see because of His light in our hearts.  Thank you Lord………. was blind, but now I see.

Fruits from one tree. What made the difference?

DCIM100GOPRO   Compare the size of the pears on the left, to the ones on the on the right. They came from the same tree.  What made the difference?

The grafting of new wood.  A new twig, more abundant source of fruit, was grafted onto the tree.  It had to be received by the tree, then healed to the tree, then allowed to grow with the tree.  After a period of time, a harvest is seen from the new fruit growing together with the tree.

It may be just me, but isn’t this a great example of BEING a Christian.  We have to receive the Holy Spirit, be “healed” (or the churchy word “saved”), then allowed to grow spiritually.  After a period of time we begin to see the fruits of harvest.

Galatians 5:22 NIV But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.

Check out this translation.       Galatians 5:22The Message (MSG)22-23 But what happens when we live God’s way? He brings gifts into our lives, much the same way that fruit appears in an orchard—things like affection for others, exuberance about life, serenity. We develop a willingness to stick with things, a sense of compassion in the heart, and a conviction that a basic holiness permeates things and people. We find ourselves involved in loyal commitments, not needing to force our way in life, able to marshal and direct our energies wisely.

The tree(you) gets to decide which fruit to grow.  I’ve made my decision to bear abundantly by being “grafted” by the Holy Spirit and (churchy word) “saved”.

What decision have you made?

p.s. While writing this, I’m having toast and homemade pear butter for breakfast!!  Can’t beat that!!!
